MILWAUKEE - Records show Harley-Davidson Inc. wants to add a research and development center in a neighborhood shopping center next to the motorcycle company's Milwaukee headquarters.

Documents filed with the city Board of Zoning Appeals show Harley has proposed locating the center in the basement of the shopping center, owned by a Harley subsidiary, Renovation Realty Investment Services Inc.

The center would amount to an investment of $300,000 at the shopping center.

Harley-Davidson officials did not immediately return a message left by The Associated Press on the company's media hotline Wednesday night seeking comment.
